History

FC Schalke 04 is almost one-hundred years old - and in during this time it has probably experienced more triumphs and tragedies than most other Bundesliga clubs or even most German sports clubs put together.

There can hardly be another club that has experienced such vastly differing emotions, hardly any other club that has undertaken such a roller-coaster ride between glorious success and the verge of obscurity. But this may be the very reason why Schalke fans are so loyal to their club and have such a strong sense of tradition.

Whatever, it is more than enough reason for us to sketch out a brief history of the club on these pages.
