The beginning of a new era: Schalke are crowned German champions for the first time by defeating Nürnberg (Nuremberg) 2-1 thanks to a goal from Ernst Kuzorra just before the final whistle. Fritz Szepan gets the other goal. Between 1933 and 1942 the Gelsenkirchen-based team appear in 14 of the 20 championship and cup finals; during this ten-year period they reach at least one final every year and win a total of seven titles (six championships and one Cup).

Success at the third attempt: Schalke win the Cup in 1937 thanks to a 2-1 victory over Fortuna Düsseldorf, becoming the first German club to do the double. Ernst Kalwitzki and Fritz Szepan strike in quick succession after the break (46/47) to secure the win.
Strong favourites Schalke succumb to Hannover 96 in the Championship Final. Following a 3-3 draw in the first meeting (scorers: Kalwitzki, Pörtgen 2) the Royal Blues go down 4-3 in the replay (scorers: Kuzorra 2, Szepan).
