After informing the Royal Blues last week of his intention not to sign a new deal with the club, Hamit Altintop has now announced where his footballing future lies.
The 24-year-old midfielder will play for Bayern Munich next season. But he reiterated his desire to win the league with Schalke before he leaves, saying: "I want to take a championship medal with me to Munich." The Altintop twins will therefore play in the same Bundesliga team for just one season. Something Halil regrets: "On the one hand I think it's a great pity, but on the other I'm pleased that Hamit has found another good club."
Bayern boss Ottmar Hitzfeld, who has already announced his departure at the end of the season and so will not get to coach Altintop, said the Turkey international was a very important team player. "He's full of running, both in defence and attack, and has an eye for goal", he said, before adding that there were "many similarities" between Altintop and Hasan Salihamidzic, who will join Juventus at the end of the season.
