Hannover game expected to go ahead

16.11.2009

It is the news many football fans have been waiting for: the question whether Schalke's forthcoming home fixture with Hannover 96 will go ahead on Saturday would appear to have been settled.

Whilst Hannover 96 will make formal contact with the German Football League on Tuesday, the players have trained for the first time since the death of their goalkeeper Robert Enke.

"The prayers and the discussions we had in the dressing room before the session were a help and comfort", said Hannover director of sport Jörg Schmadtke after training on Monday. "You can assume we'll play. It's the right way. We have a Bundesliga game in six days' time and it's good to concern ourselves with the things we can do."

The dignified memorial service at the AWD Arena on Sunday had helped the players to come to terms with the situation, said Schmadtke: "It was important to take a time-out. But the service also represented a conclusion."
