"We're the favourites for this match", stressed Schalke captain Heiko Westermann, who along with his team-mates will be determined to improve on several aspects of Sunday's performance.

"In some situations we simply weren't clever enough", a frustrated Germany international said, referring to the way the three Hamburg goals came about. "We shouldn't be conceding three goals at home, especially as we had a man advantage for the final half an hour. But we'll work hard to ensure it doesn't happen again, even though we have hardly any time because we're now focusing totally on TSV 1860 Munich. We have to win there because we're all determined to reach the final in Berlin. That is, after all, the game that makes the cup competition so special."

Looking back to the Hamburg game Westermann was keen to emphasise the positives. "The fact that we came back from 2-0 down will obviously give us confidence. And the atmosphere the fans created during the 90 minutes was sensational. I haven't experienced anything like it in a long time." Which is why the defender is certain of one thing: "There's life in Schalke!"
