Höwedes sits out training as Mezquida returns to Uruguay

The Royal Blues braved the winter temperatures again on Tuesday morning as Felix Magath gathered the players for training. Christoph Moritz and Lukas Schmitz were back on board for the session, which consisted of strength and coordination drills and some intensive running and tackling work, but Benedikt Höwedes remains sidelined.
"He's training alone today because he has a slight knee problem after the game in Bremen", explained Magath. The Schalke boss expects Höwedes to be back in the squad for Friday's visit of FSV Mainz, however.
Triallists Ergül Kurtulus (SV Hobbach) and Undra Krajac (unattached), who were handed an opportunity to impress on Monday, were again involved. "Both are doing well", he said. Krajac will remain at Schalke for a while, though Kurtulus is set return to his current club for the time being. The same applies to Nicolas Mezquida, who will now fly home to Uruguay. Magath said: "A decision has yet to be taken in his case.
