When the Royal Blues take the field at Bayern Munich on Saturday (kick-off: 1530 CET) they'll be looking for a repeat of last season's result - a 1-0 victory. In this interview with Jefferson Farfan the Schalke striker tells us why Bayern are not be underestimated despite their shaky start to the season.
Jefferson Farfan, what are you expecting from the visit to Munich?
I'm expecting a difficult game, but Bayern are certainly beatable.
Arien Robben, Franck Ribery or Jefferson Farfan – who is the most dangerous attacking player?
I only focus on what I do and work very hard on my game because I'm contracted to Schalke 04 and not interested in anything else.
How will you be looking to play as a team in Munich?
Obviously it would be better if we could take the lead. It would be nice if we could get the same result as last season or do even better.
Could it be of benefit to the Royal Blues that Bayern Munich are going through a crisis at the moment? On Tuesday they lost 2-0 to Girondins Bordeaux.
I saw some of that game, but you can't compare European ties with Bundesliga matches. Clubs like Bayern, who have tremendous quality in their squad, are always under pressure. Their problems on the field are of no concern to us, however, because we're only focusing on ourselves and getting the best possible result in Munich.
So far Schalke have been more successful away than they have at home – will that be an advantage on Saturday?
I think it's more of a coincidence that we've picked up more points away from home. Perhaps it's because we make a lot of needless mistakes in front of our own fans because we try to do everything perfectly. But basically it's irrelevant whether we're at home or away. We always start from a clean slate and want to win every game.
