Kobiashvili makes Hertha switch

Levan Kobiashvili has joined Hertha BSC Berlin with immediate effect. His contract with Schalke was due to expire on 30 June 2010.

Hertha are also in the Europa League Round of 32, where they will face Benfica. Kobiashvili made four Bundesliga appearances for Schalke this season and scored one goal, the winner in a 2-1 success at FC Cologne.

After joining the Royal Blues from SC Freiburg in 2003 the Georgia international made 168 Bundesliga appearances for the club, scoring nine goals. He also featured in 35 European matches (7 goals) and 13 DFB Cup ties (0 goals). The left-sided player was a member of the side that finished Bundesliga runners-up in 2005 and 2007 and also reached the 2005 DFB Cup final in Berlin, where the Royal Blues lost 2-1 to Bayern Munich.
