Lovenkrands returns to training as injury list shortens

14.03.2007

There was good news for Schalke boss Mirko Slomka at training on Tuesday morning.

While Gustavo Varela was put through a personal training routine at the Medicos rehabilitation centre, Peter Lovenkrands started working on the ball again and Christian Pander resumed full training. Zlatan Bajramovic and Fabian Ernst, who suffered minor knocks in Hannover on Saturday, also reported in fit. Markus Heppke is suffering from tonsillitis and was unable to train, however.

Lovenkrands had been sidelined for more than three weeks after tearing a ligament in his right ankle at VfL Wolfsburg in February. The Dane warmed up with the rest of the squad before doing some drills with the ball under the supervision of rehab coach Dr Christos Papadopoulos. "It's going really well but I've obviously got to be careful", explained the 27-year-old striker, who was unwilling to make any predictions as regards Saturday's game: "I don't know whether I'll be in the squad just yet. I've got to wait and see how my foot responds to training and then decide what's for the best."
