Matip signs professional terms

FC Schalke 04 have secured the services of another home-grown talent. Before leaving to join the Cameroon national team, who play Italy in a friendly in Monaco on Wednesday, Joel Matip put pen to paper on a professional contract that is set to run until 30 June 2013.
Matip, 18, has come through the ranks since joining the Royal Blues in 2000 and made his Bundesliga debut away to Bayern Munich on 7 November 2009, scoring the equaliser in a 1-1 draw. The Bochum-born youngster has made a total of 12 league appearances and scored two goals to date.
