The Under-20 World Cup in Egypt is over for one of the two Schalke participants after Jan Moravek and the Czech Republic lost 4-3 on penalties to Hungary in the Round of 16 on Tuesday.
Lewis Holtby and Germany are in action tonight. Horst Hrubesch's men take on Nigeria at 2000 CET (live on Eurosport).
In the Czech Republic game the score was 1-1 after 90 minutes. The resulting extra-time also failed to produce a winner despite two goals being scored, one by each side. And in the penalty shoot-out the Hungarians had the luck on their side, with Peter Gulacsi proving the match winner. The Hungary keeper saved three spot kicks – including Moravek's. The Schalke midfielder was involved from start to finish.
The German youngsters are determined to make sure things turn out better for them, though Hrubesch has great respect for the Super Eagles. "Like many African teams Nigeria have some good individual players. They've also progressed in terms of discipline, organisation and attitude. But I'm sure we'll get our opportunities. We've only conceded one goal so far and have created some excellent chances in each half we've played", added Hrubesch, confident his side will go through to the quarter-finals.
