Neuer nominated for UEFA Team of the Year

Schalke keeper Manuel Neuer has been nominated for a place in the Team of the Year 2009 by European football governing body UEFA. Fans can cast their vote for Neuer at uefa.com.
The editors at uefa.com have selected a total of 60 players and coaches based on their performances over the last twelve months. From these, users can choose eleven players and one coach for their ultimate dream team. Neuer is the only German goalkeeper to make it into the top five in his position. The other nominees are Edwin van der Sar (Manchester United), Iker Casillas (Real Madrid), Victor Valdes (Barcelona) and Julio Cesar (Inter Milan).
According to uefa.com three factors spoke in favour of Neuer. The Schalke stopper won the European Under-21 Championship with Germany, made his debut in the senior national team and, though only 23, has already made more than 100 Bundesliga appearances.
