After completing a medical earlier today Greece international Vasilios Pliatsikas has agreed terms on a four-year-deal that will tie him to the Royal Blues until 30 June 2013.
The defensive midfielder arrives from Greek club AEK Athens, for whom he had played since 2005. "He's a very talented player with excellent combative qualities", said Felix Magath, after revealing that he had spoken to Greece coach Otto Rehhagel about his new signing. "Otto was one of the people I spoke to about Pliatsikas and he thinks a lot of him."
The 21-year-old made 51 first division appearances for AEK Athens, scoring one goal, and has one Greece cap to date. He was also a member of the Greece under-19 side that finished runners-up in the 2007 European Championship.
Pliatsikas has already joined his new team-mates at their Marienfeld training camp and is set to make his first appearance in a Royal Blue shirt there against non-league outfit TSV Donndorf-Eckersdorf on Wednesday. Magath said: "He's in very good shape and will play this afternoon."
