Schalke drawn away to giantkillers Osnabrück

The Royal Blues face another away tie in the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup. Germany women's international Linda Bresonik made the draw on Sunday evening and handed Schalke a trip to VfL Osnabrück, who have already knocked out three higher-league teams.
Third-division Osnabrück defeated Hansa Rostock 2-1 in Round 1 and then disposed of Hamburg SV 7-5 on penalties in Round 2 before overcoming Schalke's Ruhr rivals Borussia Dortmund 3-2 in Round 3. The quarter-finals will take place on Tuesday/Wednesday, 9/10 February 2010.
The two clubs have met twice previously in the cup. In the 1979/80 season the Royal Blues beat second division Osnabrück 2-0 at the Park Stadium in the third round thanks to goals from Manfred Drexler und Helmut Kremers. Ten years later, however, Schalke went out 3-1 after extra-time at the Bremer Brücke in an all second division first-round tie.
