Schalke to face non-league Windeck in DFB Cup

29.06.2009

Former Germany women’s international Renate Lingor and Germany goalkeeper coach Andreas Köpke drew the 32 ties for the first round proper of the DFB Cup on Saturday.  The Royal Blues have been handed a tie against NRW-Liga (fifth-tier) outfit TSV Germania Windeck.

Windeck, who are based in the Cologne-Bonn–Siegen triangle, qualified for the first round proper under their previous name of Germania Dattenfeld thanks to a 5-3 win over Bonner SC in the final of the Middle Rhine Cup. The club will compete under its new name, TSV Germania Windeck, with effect from 1 July 2009.

Under coach Michael Boris the team finished last season in tenth place. Windeck play their home matches at the Germania-Sportpark, which has a capacity of around 1,000. The first round matches will take place between 31 July and 3 August. It will be the first time that the two sides have met in the DFB Cup.
