Schalke's summer training camp is set to return to Germany after three years in Austria. The Royal Blues will prepare for the new campaign at the Aselager Mühle Hotel in Herzlake from Monday, 6 July, to Saturday, 11 July.
"We've decided to stage our training camp at home this summer out of consideration for our many fans", explained club chairman Josef Schnusenberg. "Another key factor behind our decision to go to Herzlake was the outstanding facilities that await the players there, be it the training pitches, the running trails or the accommodation."
A warm-up match planned is scheduled to take place during the five-day camp, though details have yet to be announced. Two earlier friendlies have been arranged, however. Schalke will take on a Hochsauerland Select XI at the Dünnefeld Stadium in Meschede on Tuesday, 30 June. The kick-off time will be announced in due course.
On Saturday, 4 July, the Royal Blues will then face the "Victoria National Team", a collection of ambitious amateur players coached by former Schalke midfielder Olaf Thon, at the Hohenhorst Stadium in Recklinghausen (kick-off: 1530 CET).
On completion of the training camp the Royal Blues will travel straight from Herzlake to Austria on Saturday, 11 July, for an evening friendly with Rapid Vienna at the Gerhard Hanappi Stadium. The match forms part of the 110th anniversary celebrations of 32-time Austrian champions.
