Two carrying knocks, two trying to impress

15.12.2009

The final training week before the mid-season break began on Monday afternoon with temperatures below freezing point. But Felix Magath and his coaching team made sure the players didn't feel the cold with an intensive session of ball work topped off by a lengthy practice match.

Lukas Schmitz and Benedikt Höwedes are both carrying knocks and were forced to sit out the session, though Magath was quick to sound the all clear, saying that neither injury was serious.

The Schalke boss still had a full squad at his disposal, however, after handing attacking players Ergül Kurtulus (SV Hobbach) and Undra Krajac (unattached) an opportunity to impress on trial. In addition, Uruguayan youngster Nicolas Mezquida continues to train with the Royal Blues as agreed. A decision on whether he will signed on a permanent deal will be taken during the winter break.
